This is the banquette as a statement wall. A high back in deep emerald velvet is overlaid with a brass lattice of interlocking eight-pointed star geometry, the kind of pattern found in Moorish screens, and the whole back is crowned with a scalloped brass crest. The lattice continues on the end panels, and brass trim edges the arm caps and runs along the base of the seat.
The lattice is a fabricated metal screen fixed over the upholstered back, so the velvet shows through every opening and catches light differently from each seat. Below, a single long velvet seat cushion with brass-coloured piping sits on a recessed dark timber plinth.
Where it works. Middle Eastern and North African restaurants, hotel signature dining rooms, cocktail lounges and anywhere one banquette has to carry the identity of the room. It is best used as a single feature run rather than throughout.
Options. Velvet colour (emerald shown; ink blue, oxblood and saffron all suit), lattice pattern and metal finish (polished or brushed brass, bronze, blackened steel), crest profile and back height. Each lattice is drawn to the exact section length so the pattern ends cleanly at the end panels. Foams and fabrics specified to meet BS 5852 / BS 7176 on request.
