A straight banquette follows a wall; a serpentine one makes its own. This piece is drawn as a continuous curve, with channels set out so that they fan slightly on the outside of each bend and close up on the inside, keeping the stitching even to the eye.
Three treatments are shown. The S-shaped run in orange velvet has vertical channels and a single unbroken seat, and works as a free-standing room divider with tables on both sides. The arc in tan leather is built in three joined sections, each with its own seat cushion, so it can be carried through a normal door. The C-shaped version in forest-green velvet uses horizontal channels and sits against a curved wall with two small round tables.
Construction. Curved hardwood and plywood frames with a recessed timber plinth, high-resilience foam over sprung or solid decks, and hidden section joints that are bolted on site.
Where it works. Hotel lobbies and lounges, bar fronts and the middle of large dining rooms where a curve softens a long, rectangular floor.
Options. S, C or arc geometry, vertical or horizontal channels, back height, plinth timber and a velvet, leather or COM finish. Fire-retardant foams to BS 5852 / BS 7176 on request.
