Most channel backs are flat panels with stitched lines. Here each channel is a separate rounded pillar of foam, so the back reads as a row of soft columns with deep shadows between them. The tops of the pillars are domed, giving the crest a gently scalloped silhouette without any separate crest detail.
The seat is kept deliberately plain: a single deep cushion with a crisp front edge, so the eye goes to the back. Below, a recessed walnut plinth sets the banquette slightly off the floor and keeps shoes away from the velvet.
Construction. Hardwood and plywood frame; each channel shaped from high-resilience foam and wrapped before being sewn into the back, which keeps the pillars full under daily use; seat on a sprung or solid deck; solid timber plinth.
Where it works. Cocktail bars, theatre-district restaurants and dining rooms with a strong colour story. In deep red it reads as velvet-curtain glamour; in sage or ivory it is calmer and more contemporary.
Options. Channel width and count, back height, velvet, leather or COM, plinth timber or brushed metal, and single or run lengths. Fire-retardant foams and fabrics to BS 5852 / BS 7176 on request.
