Cane usually arrives on a dining chair as a back panel. On the Cannes it does something more useful: a single bent-timber hoop, stained dark, wraps from one arm round the back to the other, and the band between hoop and seat is filled with natural cane webbing. Seen from behind, the chair reads as timber and cane; from the front, the guest sees a soft velvet seat and a tall, slightly flared back.
The seat is a generous upholstered pad on a hardwood frame, the back a separate upholstered shell that rises above the hoop. Four turned legs taper to brass ferrules, which protect the ends from mop damage and give a thin line of metal at floor level.
Where it works. Brasseries, hotel dining rooms and wine bars that already use cane or rattan elsewhere, and rooms where chairs are seen from behind on entry. The hoop also gives a natural hand-hold for moving the chair in and out.
Options. Velvet, wool, bouclé or leather on seat and back (COM/COL accepted); stain of the hoop and legs; natural or dyed cane; brass, bronze or black ferrules. Foam and fabric can be specified to meet BS 5852 / BS 7176 on request.
