Most dining chairs hide their joinery. This one makes it the design: two square-section side frames in dark-stained timber, each an upright that runs straight down into a leg, with the seat box and a low stretcher spanning between them. The back is simply a fat cylindrical bolster in red velvet, fixed between the uprights at the height of the lower back.
The result is a compact, strongly architectural chair with a 1970s Italian accent. It is shallow and upright, good for proper dining posture, and the solid uprights take the knocks of a busy room better than slender legs. The seat is a separate upholstered pad on the frame, easy to re-cover in place.
Where it works. Trattorias and wine-led restaurants, chef's-table rooms and bistros where the table is close to the wall. In deep reds or rusts it suits warm, low-lit rooms; in tobacco or olive velvet it moves towards a quieter Milanese look.
Options. Timber stain (dark walnut shown, also natural oak or black), velvet, wool or leather on seat and bolster (COM/COL accepted), bolster diameter and height. Fire-retardant foam and fabric specified to meet BS 5852 / BS 7176 on request.
